IPv6 Transition Workshop

IPv6 Transition Workshop

Workshop Overview:

  • The New Internet, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), has been slated to globally replace the existing Internet protocol (version 4, in use since 1973), in order to enable a major upgrade of features such as a larger number of addresses, communications security, mobility, and the enabling of major networks of sensors and smart tracking tags for integrated, enterprise-centric government operations.

  • In order to assure an effective and secure transition to this new protocol, OMB issued guidance (Memo M-05-22) to the CIOs of all federal agencies on what actions should be taken to support this initiative.

  • The purpose of this one-day workshop is to help the staffs of agency CIOs get an overview of the New Internet (IPv6) and what it can do for them, and learn how to respond to the OMB memo by the relevant due dates.

Transition Planning for IPv6:

A Memo to CIOs from Karen Evans, Administrator, Office of E-Governement and Information Technology, Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget.

OMB Memo M-05-22 states specific agency actions required by November 15, 2005.
